QPLA Board on Tour – Logan Hyperdome Visit – Feb 2024

Hi Folks,

On the 26th of February, the QPLA Board we’re lucky to take part in a tour of four Logan Library Branches after our Board meeting. A few of us were tasked with providing reports on each branch, and I chose Logan Hyperdome Library.

Logan Hyperdome Library caught my interest immediately with its Drive through service. To see the drive through service in action was fantastic! Users generally are picking up reservations and dropping off loans. I witnessed numerous library users utilise this service and it was extremely effective and quite thought provoking for future library planning.

We then headed inside where we were met with a very well-maintained collection with a traditional yet effective layout. Hyperdome Library consists of two levels, level 1 where you enter via the street, and a lower level via an internal staircase that leads you to more public PC’s, a 3D printer, and an eclectic DVD collection. The 3D printer was on display, for all library users to witness, however this was under staff control and those who wanted to use the printer submitted their prints to staff online where staff would then initiate the print.

We then moved on to a rather large storage space where automotive manuals were kept, programming equipment along with other collection items and library essentials.  We then moved upstairs to complete the tour with a visit to the back of house returns area, which also deals with drive-through customers. This was small but efficiently laid out and was a hive of activity. It also contained numerous coding and robotics equipment; Sphereos and iPads, along with the usual trolleys and RFID return bins.

Hyperdome Library is extremely well placed and represents a high functioning library with a broad service. It was a pleasure to see the space. If you have any questions, please fire away and I will seek answers from the fantastic Hyperdome Library Staff.

Thanks for providing the opportunity for the QPLA Board to visit Logan Hyperdome Library.
