Local Government Award

The Local Government Award is an annual award that recognises the Queensland Local Government that demonstrates outstanding community service through delivery of an individual program or service. This award is open to all QPLA member libraries and the QPLA Executive Board will consider one entry per member library service.

The winner is determined by the QPLA Executive Board based on how well the applicant’s submission addresses the criteria.  The winners are announced annually at either the QPLA Conference, LEaD Professional Development Intensive, or Annual General Meeting.

In alignment with the changes to the membership structure to support RLQ/IKCs across Queensland, in 2024, there will be two (2) categories for the Local Government Awards.

  • Category 1 – Awarded to those councils with a population under 35,000
  • Category 2 – Award to councils with a population above 35,000.

A highly commended certificate will be awarded for each category.
The winners will each receive $1,000.

NEW AWARD CATEGORY

Based on feedback from both QPLA members and vendors, in 2024-25 QPLA will be introducing the QPLA Multicultural Excellence Award.  This Award was announced at the 2024 QPLA AGM and will have a value of $500 with nominations open to all QPLA member councils ahead of the QPLA 2024-25 Conference held in Townsville 26-28 March 2025.

This award will recognise a public library service for demonstrated excellence in the delivery of multicultural library services.  QPLA acknowledges the importance of multicultural services within public libraries and this award has been established to recognize activities that promote diversity, inclusivity, and cultural understanding across different communities. This award will highlight efforts to celebrate Australia’s rich cultural diversity, improve cross-cultural communication, and support minority groups.

The QPLA Board look forward to seeing the amazing work being done by libraries across the state, with the winner announced at the QPLA 2024-25 Conference Dinner.

The QLPA Board continues to be very thankful for the ongoing feedback and support of QPLA and QPLA initiatives by our members.

2025 LG Award nominees will be available soon.
