One tough tomcat, a prolific author, a gallery and a library.
Moreton Bay Regional Council brings these elements together in an immersive experience based on Dame Lynley Dodd’s popular children’s stories, specifically Scarface Claw.
Key to the event is the exhibition curated by Penelope Jackson, The Life and Times of Scarface Claw, which features more than 40 original watercolour illustrations by the New Zealand author and illustrator. They reveal the development of Scarface Claw from his first appearance in Hairy Maclary from Donaldson’s Dairy (1983) to assuming the lead character role in his own book Scarface Claw, Hold Tight!
The exhibition opens on Saturday 29 June at the Caboolture Regional Art Gallery and Library, with a diverse range of feature events from 10am-2pm. Audience members can get their books signed, tour the gallery and enjoy a raft of activities. The exhibition continues until 7 September during gallery hours – Monday-Saturday 10am-4pm.
And there’s more! This collaboration between the library and the gallery exhibition has spawned a program of events including In Conversation with Dame Lynley Dodd and A Great Debate – Cats vs Dogs – featuring local personalities and moderated by Moreton Bay’s own Heather Foord.
There’s animal face painting, Backstage Pass (for families with special needs), fierce animal cartooning and Japanese brushstroke painting across our 10 libraries.
It’s all about sharing the love between our galleries, libraries and museums and enhancing our cultural offer by curating library experiences alongside them.
