The QPLA Local Government Award provides annual recognition of a Queensland Council/s that have demonstrated outstanding community service through delivery of a program or service.
At the 2023 QPLA AGM, we verbally advised there may be some additional changes to the structure of our functions resulting from the change in membership tiers once that was adopted by QPLA members. The previous Awards structure provided a Gold, Silver and Bronze category which often placed RLQ/IKCs at a distinct disadvantage based on size, scope and budget of projects undertaken by Independent library services. This was reflected in feedback received from a number of QPLA members and past award assessors.
The QPLA Board agreed the Local Government of the Year Awards would require some alteration with two award categories aligning with membership categories and providing a more equitable opportunity for our RLQ/IKC services to gain recognition in the awards.
As such, in 2024 QPLA introduced the two (2) categories for the Local Government Awards . Winners of each category receive $1000, with a highly commended certificate awarded to each category as well.
Winners were announced at the 2024 QPLA AGM, held at State Library of Queensland, Thursday 3 October 2024.
