Recently while on Holidays, our Executive Officer popped into the Cairns City Library for a visit.
Being unannounced, the library staff were most welcoming with Karen taking time out of her busy day to show me around.
The Cairns City Library is located in the Cairns CBD and has a rich history. The building, which is listed on the Queensland Heritage Register, was constructed in 1929 and served as Cairns City Council’s Chambers until Council moved to new premises in 1998.
A special feature at the City Library is the Literary Trail, a display of public artworks completed in 1999 by local artists. You can follow the Literary trail as you walk around the gardens of the library.
The City Library is also home to the Cairns’ Sister Cities display, an extensive map and microfilm collection, Regional Resources, over 20 pc’s for public use and a number of meeting rooms.
