NQ Regional Wrap Up – Q1 2025

North Queensland Regional Rep, Jacob Schaumburg, shares some of the Q1 2025 news from across the North Qld region.

TOWNSVILLE CITYLIBRARIES

Townsville Citylibraries finishes it’s first quarter of 2025 with the launch of our Expert in Residence project. The Expert in Residence Project is a 3-month project consisting of 36 workshops and over 90 delivery hours to the community. Workshops focus on building capacity in digital literacy by utilising Townsville Citylibraries state of the art creative spaces, Riverway Creative Hub and the Aitkenvale Creative Studio.

This project has been in development for 7 months and culminated in selecting a local community mentor with a background in emerging technology within Australia’s Defence Force. Andrew Schubert, our Expert in Residence, will deliver workshops focusing on beginner and intermediate 3D printing, laser cutting and engraving, 3D scanning, and creative problem solving and design thinking.

Within 4 days of posting an in-house poster, over 85% of workshops were booked. 6 days after the first workshop, we are fully booked for every class with a waiting list.

Community feedback is already overwhelmingly positive and there is clearly more room in this space for us to expand our offerings, diversity facilitators with perhaps multiple “experts”, and begin including staff in delivery to build internal capacity and skillsets.

We look forward to the feedback from the community, making changes, and evolving this project for next year.
