The Gudidja Marralda Gwarrdon Digital Indigenous Knowledge Centre (IKC) has opened in Doomadgee, creating a new community-driven digital space. It’s a place where people can access State Library collections, explore ideas, learn new skills and use technology to create opportunities — from starting micro-businesses and accessing training to engaging with government services. It also supports cultural strength by helping the community preserve, share and celebrate culture.
Officially opened by the Hon Fiona Simpson MP, the launch was a lively community celebration and a chance for locals to try the new digital equipment, creative tools, and skills workshops now available.
The IKC is part of State Library’s Growing IKCs project, delivered in partnership with 16 First Nations councils and supported by the Department of Customer Service, Open Data and Small and Family Business.
