It was a privilege to be the first recipient of the QPLA Cheryl Houghton Scholarship. My project focus on sustainable collection management was both rewarding and interesting. In my travel to the United States to visit libraries that had completed the Sustainable Library Certification Program, I was amazed at the concentration of sustainable library activity on Long Island and keen to explore the similarities and differences to Queensland. I discovered a range of opportunities to share and celebrate sustainable practices embedded in Australian libraries and see this project as a positive step for Queensland Public Libraries’ sustainability journey.
