QPLA Professional Development Intensive

Expressions of Interest are now invited from Councils wishing to host the Association’s annual Professional Development Intensive in 2018.

The Professional Development Intensive

The Professional Development Intensive is usually held over two days with the first day for presenters and workshops and the second day for library tours and QPLA business. The Executive Committee has recommended an October to November timeframe. However, we are desirous of not clashing with other conferences or events that may attract potential delegates, so are prepared to consider other options.

The Professional Development Intensive attracts public library staff from throughout the State, as well as representatives from the State Library of Queensland, Councillors and other local government personnel with an interest in libraries.

A programme of enlightening papers and challenging workshops organised around themes relevant to the library and information sector are a feature of the Professional Development event, as well as a variety of social events to facilitate networking and that very important informal discussion.

Planning

A planning committee is established to work with the host Council to develop the programme and assist with the event management. The committee meets regularly by teleconference, and in person at least once in the lead up to the event.

An agreement is entered into with the host Council to clearly define mutual responsibilities.

Funding

It is required that the event be self-funding, based on registrations and sponsorship. A budget is established by the planning committee, and is subject to approval by the Association’s Executive Committee. All financial transactions are undertaken through the Association’s Treasurer.

To express your interest in hosting the 2018 Professional Development Intensive, please complete the application form by Monday 29 January 2018 and return by email to secretary@qpla.asn.au
